The best screen-free play is the kind you don't have to run

Some toys need you — to set them up, explain them, keep them going. This isn't one of them. Lay the farm out, and most little ones drop straight into their own world: naming animals, moving them around, telling long quiet stories to themselves. It's the kind of play that unfolds on its own, which means you get to make dinner or sit down while it does.
